There are various different ways of running instant wins: scratch cards, unique codes, ‘winning moments, or physical ‘golden ticket’ Willie Wonka style promotions.
All of them may offer valuable prizes but they also have substantial risks. How do you know that you have printed the exact number of prize tickets, or that they have been distributed fairly and randomly? How secure is the website where the codes are entered? ‘Scampers’ can make thousands of fake entries and Prize Clubs enter on behalf of their members who are not even aware of your promotion! What checks are in place to prevent fraud or abuse both internally and externally?
The CAP Code says that “Instant-win tickets, tokens or numbers must be awarded on a fair and random basis and verification must take the form of an independently audited statement that all prizes have been distributed, or made available for distribution, in that manner.” Clause 8.25.
Don’t risk it – one lost ticket, one suspect prize claim can ruin brand and agency reputations.
Ask PromoVeritas to manage the process: one of our independent auditors will oversee every stage from generating unique codes, supervising printing of codes or scratchcards, to the collation and secure & random seeding of winners, integrity checks on websites and verifying all prize claims.
We have run these type of campaigns all over the world with recent campaigns in Denmark, Norway, France and Portugal. Read about our work with Cadbury in this area here.
