We safeguard promotions for the public.

Entering promotions should be a fun and pleasurable experience. However, for many consumers, there is still a lack of trust regarding the industry. They are cynical and suspicious and this will reduce rates of participation and entry. Going to the time, trouble and often cost of purchasing an instant win product, entering a prize draw or creating a competition entry means you want to know that the promotion is being run fairly.

Although most reputable brands take the time to ensure their promotions are compliant with best practice and the Codes, the weekly list of Rulings from the Advertising Standards Authority show that there is still a big problem with those who are ignorant of the rules for promotions. Some of the issues include;

  • Winners being picked unfairly
  • Closing dates being extended
  • No list of winners being published
  • No set of Terms and Conditions to refer to, or they are incomplete
  • Fake votes being included in voting promotions
  • Winners not receiving their prize or receiving it late
  • A different prize to the one originally promoted being awarded

Our name is synonymous with promotional compliance worldwide, so if you see our name written in the Terms of a promotion you can be secure in the knowledge that it is safe to enter. However, we are not a Consumer watchdog organisation, so if, as a member of the public, you do come across a promotion that is not run fairly, then in the UK you should raise a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority at www.asa.org.uk.
