Amazon Deep Racer

Background
Amazon AWS challenged developers across the world to win prizes in their AWS DeepRacer championship. Billed as the ‘first global autonomous racing league’, the DeepRacer League challenges racers from around the world to compete in a series of live events, taking place in 18 countries, and online events, by creating artificial intelligent DeepRacers that can autonomously drive themselves. Those scoring highest and racing fastest receive an incredible trip to Las Vegas, and a place at the Amazon Re:Invent conference to complete in the grand finale.
The competition involved live events in 18 countries including Japan, USA, Mexico, UAE and South Korea. Our team of legal experts acting on behalf of AWS, needed to investigate all the laws required to run such a global competition compliantly. This included completing all required registrations with local authorities, prize tax advice, legal waivers, legal ages of consent and adapting the competition where needed to comply with local laws as well as creating T&Cs in 11 languages.

What we did
After each competition, PromoVeritas independently confirmed the winners and handled all communication with them in their chosen language. For the 250 runners-up we delivered cash or vouchers to them around the world in accordance with the laws in their country but for the main prize winners we did something extra special. We arranged for the 47 main winners and their guests, to fly from local airports around the world and arrive in Las Vegas simultaneously to a fanfare at the airport followed by VIP care arranged by PromoVeritas.

The PromoVeritas Touch
Amazon’s mission is to be “Earth’s most customer-centric company”, so each winner was handled with the upmost care. We monitored community boards to stay ahead of potential issues and dealt with any queries in a speedy manner at all hours of the day and provided Amazon with total reassurance that the promotion followed the latest international laws and there would be no legal issues, costly fines or Rulings. De Clercq Wentzel, Product Manager for AWS said “I truly appreciate the dedication and effort put forth to meet our needs throughout the season…Thanks for being great partners with us in getting AWS DeepRacer off the ground”.
