Why you should run your next prize promotion on TikTok.

Abi Roman May 31, 2022

TikTok has continued to grow since its surge during Lockdown, with over one billion active users in 2022. All marketers know that the video app’s appeal has spread from young to old with its playful mix of music, dancing, celebrities, and memes, but is it the right social media platform for your promotion?

TikTok is overtaking all the other platforms in popularity and inventiveness right now and we are seeing more and more brands take the plunge and create a presence on the platform. From our experience, social media competitions and prize draws can be an effective way to reach out to thousands of followers quickly and for relatively little cost. For this alone its understandable why it’s at the top of the list for many brand campaigns.

At its inception TikTok simply provided a sign-post to brand’s promotions that were hosted on other social platforms or microsites simply because extracting data compliantly was not safe and simple enough to satisfy compliance rules. Over the past few years PromoVeritas have worked hard to deliver solutions around compliantly extracting winner data and our clients are delighted with the results.

This means that where you might have run a Twitter promotion, or perhaps a promotion on Instagram and Facebook, you can now choose TikTok as a safe option for collecting winning entries from fans and followers.

Here are just a few examples of recent TikTok promotions that PromoVeritas have been involved with:

“Calling all Garys” Prize Draw

This promotion for Brew City utilised our new extraction techniques and asked only individuals called Gary to comment on the post ‘what would be your first act as Chief Snacking Officer and why?’.

We were then able to select all those who correctly followed the entry directions, clean the data (remove bots or those ineligible) and conduct a prize draw to pick the winner of £30,000 and unlimited snacks.

Beauty Bay Heat Prize Draw

For this promotion, entrants had to upload a video to Tiktok of them creating their ‘fire’ themed makeup look to be entered into a prize draw.

Winners would get £200 each. This was a really ingenious way for Beauty Bay to utilise Tiktok to spark major uplift in their online and social media engagement. Consumers and fans of the brand jumped on it and created a real buzz around their product line.

Klarna’s Global Social Media Promotion TikTok

Klarna have been looking for new content creators and were willing to incentivise generously, giving 5 budding influencers the chance to earn £40,000 and a one year contract with the company. In exchange, winners would have to create content for Klarna.

This promotion works on individuals creating a video using Tiktok and then uploading the URL to a bespoke microsite, built by our in-house digital team. The PromoVeritas team will then judge entries and winners will be selected! 15 runners-up will also be picked to collect £1,000 each.

What we can do

These are just a small selection of the brands harnessing the power of TikTok’s popularity using promotions. Until recently to run a TikTok promotion compliantly was a time consuming and expensive process. With the help of our Operations Team we are now able to extract comments to create complete data sets and therefore giving everyone an equal chance to win. This makes running TikTok promotions a more accessible option for our clients.
